Thunzi Bush Lodge is located in the tranquil sanctuary of coastal forest and African bush and offers country style, self-catering accommodation 30 km from the centre of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

The lodge offers charming, self-catering, wooden chalets that can accommodate between 2 to 6 people. The chalets have comfortably furnished bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms. Each chalet also has a fully equipped kitchen, and some of the chalets have a wood-fired hot tub, undercover braai and a private lapa. Guests have access to laundry facilities and the units are serviced daily.

The dome accommodates 2 guests and is furnished with a queen-size bed and features a bathroom fitted with a shower, bath and toilet. The unit has a kitchenette equipped with a fridge and tea- and coffee-making facilities. The unit features a deck with a wood-fired hot tub.

Thunzi Bush Lodge has the first-ever dome, consisting of 3 pods — all designed for stargazing! The pods include a bedroom, a self-catering kitchen, and a bathroom. Relax in the wood-fired hot tub while taking in the views of the wetlands and surroundings. Or have a luxury African bush braai while watching the sunset. This dome is anything but ordinary!

Guests can relax at the lazy lizard swimming pool, experience the friendly staff, order one of the tasty picnic baskets and enjoy many other interesting activities.

The lodge caters mainly to the traveller who enjoys a tranquil setting, forest and beach walks, bass fishing and bird watching. Walking trails around the lodge provide access to the dense indigenous forest where many bird species and animals including the Bushbuck, Blue Duiker and Vervet Monkeys, to name a few, can be spotted in the area. The lodge is located near the Addo Elephant Park and Shamwari Game Reserve where Africa's Big 5 can be spotted.

We had a very nice stay. The place was exactly as in the photos, clean and tidy. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We booked a picnic and were impressed with the effort put into the set up as well as the quality of the food we ordered. I just wish the picnic venue was a little more private. Maybe they could start considering breakfast options. The hot tub at Thunzi Bush Lodge & Country Lodge was very nice, we had a great time relaxing. The place is very calm and peaceful, perfect for a break from the busy life. The staff and the workers were very helpful, they went the extra mile for us.

"It was amazing."

My husband and I went there for a couple of days for our mini-moon and it was wonderful. It's such a beautiful and peaceful place, perfect to relax and unwind. The individual chalets are perfectly setup for privacy. So much to see and do there. The staff tends to every detail and they are so very friendly and helpful. Definitely going back again.

"Wonderful stay at Thunzi."

Lovely place tucked away in a secluded valley a few minutes from the beach. Pretty dams on the property and a lovely hike through the forest. Very peaceful and safe. We stayed in Nguni Chalet which was superbly kitted out with a wonderful view. Very relaxing and a definite recommendation.

This is one of the most amazing places we’ve ever stayed. The tranquility and fresh air is the ultimate of going to Thunzi. Well worth to spend your time here.

We had a wonderful time at the lodge and thank you Rose for your warmth and helpfulness. The room was spotless and very adequate for our stay. If you want to breakaway, this is the place.

Thunzi is so close to the hustle and bustle of the city, yet so far. The location is perfect with exceptional scenery. It is very peaceful, the units are well equipped and tidy and the service is good. The braai facilities do need some attention.

Neat resort. Beautiful scenery. Lots of bird life. Neat clean well furnished chalets. Very nice private boma to braai in the evening. If you are looking for silence and nature to just rest, this is the place for you.

Great place, very nice units, best barbecue places I have seen for the type of lodges. Really awesome place, was my third time and just as good.

It was the most amazing team ever! In the forest, two km from the sea, six km from the restaurants, nicest pool to cool off in! The rooms are furnished 5 star! The beds and bedding heavenly! Bathrooms to dream of and fully equipped kitchen. But the best was the silence, the birdsong and just resting. Heavenly.

Thunzi Bush Lodge has such a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a quick breakaway from the hustle. The privacy of each house is very nice. It feels like you're staying in your own bubble. Very good service, beautiful views and neat accommodation. Would definitely go back there.

"A beautiful restful place to be in nature near Port Elizabeth."

We enjoyed being in the Thunzi Bush Lodge. The treehouse was comfortable being a little small with all te furniture. Not all the fittings were in order. We reported it to management but tey did not seem to be very interested. All in all we had a lovely stay, with a nice braai, lovely view and facilities to swim en walk.

"If you like nature and birdlife you can't do better than Thunzi - fantastic facilities and environment."

The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped. The service was very friendly. But the best asset was just the environment - you are private, among the trees and there are nice walking trails and plenty of bird life. Highly recommend.

"Peaceful getaway!"

Thunzi was an ideal break from the city to celebrate our wedding anniversary in peace and quiet, without having to travel far out of PE. Our picnic supper was delicious and memorable. The view from our balcony over the wetlands was beautiful. The chalet had all we needed and was clean and comfortable. We did not make use of the boma, but over a longer stay we definitely will. Maitlands Beach, a short drive from Thunzi, is a favourite spot of ours as well. I would recommend Thunzi to anyone wanted some peace and quiet, and a refreshing rest.

"What a lovely relaxing place"

The cottage that we stayed in was absolutely immaculate. The staff were friendly at all times, and last but not least the view was fantastic with a wide variety of bird life! We also ran into some small wildlife who were between the cottages. I would suggest this place to anyone at any time. We are definitely going back.
